Here at {nicolethen studio}, we love stories. I love LOVE stories!! Whether it’s the sacrificial love a mom has for her child, the special friendship between sisters, the inspired love of your parents or the love between a couple!

One thing I love about photographing weddings is that at weddings, people take the time to explicitly tell their loved ones how much they love them and cherish to them. But why wait for that special date? Do it today :D

remember the story about ken’s proposal? and how he showed me this video slideshow of our photos. my favourite ones of us were the ones that were either taken by selina or rachel who snapped away while we laughed or goofed around - the moments in a moment, because it truly reflected how we are with each other and how we love. 

and that is why i absolutely love shooting couples/engagement sessions. it’s a dedicated time where you’re free to love and hug and laugh and giggle with your loved one whether the person’s your family, a wonderful friend or a special someone. and having it caught in a photograph to keep and to cherish <3

i had a wonderful time at the shoot with sueann and lawrence, who are my junior juniors(!) from Singapore Management University haha. the shoot was a little present to herself to celebrate her twenty first birthday! and of course, one can’t help but notice that sueann just has the most adorable laughter and smile that just makes you think how sweet and beautiful she is! these are the couple shots, but there’s more individual shots too and some behind the scene film photographs coming up too :D

my sister and i were having our own little adventure - coffee, dinner and stumbling upon random things (but that’s a story for another blog post). while we were just walking the streets, the pink van caught my eye. then next to it, a lady standing just under the street lamp like a spotlight on a stage, chatting on the phone with a cute red apron around her waist, the most gorgeous head of hair and a warm smile. 

i admit, the both of us stood across the road debating awkwardly about whether to:

1. wait for her to finish talking on the phone and ask for her photo
2. snap her photo sneakily and head off
3. use our memories to snap the photo and walk away

after bouncing back and forth, walking away and then walking back i finally plucked up enough courage to use my sign language to explain to her (while she was talking on the phone) that i would LOVE to take her photograph. she smiled and agreed and i couldn’t thank her enough!! cause she just looked so beautiful, so relaxed and cool i’m honoured to have had the opportunity to take her picture. i don’t know her name, cause when i left and shouted my thanks, she was still on the phone. but i’d love to send her a copy of this photograph.

alright! gotta sleep early. tomorrow’s an early start. have a normal shoot followed by a lookbook with the LB girls yay and i hope to be able to clear some emails before heading out. gdnite ;)

did this shoot quite some time back haha but didn’t get a chance to blog about it. i wanted to experiment with a darker setting. this shoot was shot with no artificial lighting using remnant lights and welcoming shadows to give a moodier feel to the story ;)

back from my trip and i missed the reflections of year 2011 and my goals for 2012 haha but i guess it’s better late then never since i just got back from overseas (more on the trip soon!). here’s a look back at the year at {nicolethen studio} in 2011 :D

so after helping to 2nd shoot at wendy & marcus and then for my cousin (i want to thank them for even asking me to help them haha because i would have never thought weddings could be this fun. i would have never thought of photographing weddings ever), i got my first paid gig as the official photographer at denise & ivan’s wedding (thank you guys so much for your trust, love and amazing support!)

so it rained like CRAZY that day haha i remember, we were getting soaked even while using umbrella. so we changed location and shot indoors instead. i was really happy with the results even though i shot at that location for the first time in an indoor setting.

at the actual day! they got married on polling day haha so they were featured in straits times ;) haha and there’s an iphone pictures of me shooting…well, behind the little girl doing a weird face haha

she celebrated her eighteen birthday and what better way then to keep beautiful pictures. after my engagement surprise, where ken put together this collage of pictures of us, the love and endearment of pictures we took just grew so much more!!

all in all, this was one AMAZING year and i’m so grateful to God for all the blessings. i cannot know the future and i can only plan my steps so much then work really hard at it. so truly credit must go to God who helped path the way. and of course, the wonderful support from my family, friends and my fiance! haha not forgetting you guys who have really helped me so much in ways you cannot imagine <3 thank you!!

christmas is here! chose this picture taken at marcus & genevieve’s wedding dinner cause it just has that christmas-y feel to it and it’s very sweet <3 haha wishing everyone wonderful christmas celebrations and lots of joy with loved ones.

i’ll be shooting one last wedding this sunday on christmas day itself! my last wedding for 2011 and then i’m off to chiangmai with my family and a group of friends. by the time i’m back it’ll be 2012 :D what a way to end the year haha
