meshing together a couple of different occasions that happened across different weekends haha! i’m trying my best to load up on rest while finishing up May’s edits because June is going to be one CRAZY month!!

we stumbled across this new shopping centre at katong called “1-2-3 something”

and came across this chic looking cafe BACI and tried it for fun

ken was wondering if that black thing was chocolate sauce haha, it’s not ;)

i got a wonderful surprise when canon (the little white fluffy friend) dashed into my office half estatic and excited and half trembling with fright haha. it rained that day so we had to hide under the shelter and shot along the corridor. it was definitely lots of fun and i thank velda & the family for engaging me to photograph their family portraits. especially when they take one every 10 years lol!

one good thing about my neighbourhood at my office area, is that even though i was standing in the middle of the road, with an umbrella clenched in my neck and camera in one hand, the cars actually patiently stopped and waited for me to be done - can you believe it?! they didn’t even horn me :D wow, just amazing! i love tiong bahru even more ;)

back from that short vacation with my family and appointments and shoots are locked back to back!! so I’m blogging on the go. Haha did a portrait session with Vanessa one of the days and even though she isn’t quite sure of it but she is one gorgeous girl ;) tough and strong (she played touch rugby) and beautiful.

waiting for the portrait session to start so i thought I’d just share these behind the scene pictures from the love bonito lookbook shoot. haha, i took a couple of shots too of our korean bbq dinner but almost everyone look rather drunk and weird (probably from being too tired), it was pretty hilarious. so i’ll show you the nicer looking pictures of us during the shoot while we still had some energy ;)

# my favourite photo is the last one that daphne took of me and vel haha. it’s pretty cool but on close observation i realize that i’m doing a awkward hand flailing gesture in an attempt to explain to zianna the kind of look i’m going for. lol

Love your film photos!!! Very inspiring! Any tips on how to shoot in film? My photos don't come out as clear as yours and what would be a good film camera for someone to start off with? I played around with a disposable film camera but wouldn't mind investing in a proper one :)

Oh thank you :D haha glad it’s inspiring!! every camera is so different, with different strengths & constraints. so i’m curious to know what camera do you use to shoot film. and thus my first most important tip (my little two cents) is [know your camera]. Really understand every nook and cranny of that little box. what’s the focal length, aperture, shutter speed, etc!! Hope it helps ;)

we’re a very simple family, my birthday was celebrated by the beach and so was my sisters’. we have no car, my parents don’t know branded stuff and we just live simply. we are not poor, no in fact we are truly blessed!! we just find wealth and joy in the simple things and this is one thing i love about my family :)

most people ask me about nicolethen studio and if i do it alone. and i realized that well technically, i’m the only full time staff in the block. but i totally don’t feel like it because i have amazing people around me and one of them is ken. he’s my bouncing board and has the best advice when i hit a road block. i secretly want to hire him but don’t have the cash to do so. because where i’m weak, he’s really good. and we share lots of laughs together. he’s my best friend and love and i couldn’t be more thankful to God for him ;)

Yesterday was Pamela & Weelee’s ROM and I wanted to blog about their engagement session before the ROM but haha too much work and meetings so didn’t have the time. And man, it’s such a joy to get to know my couples before the actual day. Because when that day comes, it feels like I’m attending my friends’ wedding (which was the case for the very first wedding I shot that got me hooked to photographing weddings) and man it’s a blast!!

i love japanese food. just love it to the max! haha, it’s always in our options of “what to eat when we want to spoil ourselves”. there’s the usual sushi teh when we don’t have the luxury of time which is alright, it still satisfies our cravings.

but when we have some time and feeling abit richer, the ramen at tampopo (some black pig spicy ramen) and tonkichi really kicks some ass. anyone with any other cool japanese outlets to recommend? :P

Sorry i took so long with this question! haha have trouble recalling all my camera’s models. Well i usually shoot with the Prima BF twin point and shoot film camera. I also have a diana mini, canon 888 and a canon AE-1 that I use! once in a while I take out the red army camera too when I’m not in a rush to take photographs ;) oh and sometimes i use this little canon compact camera that ken got for me. haha yup, I’m quite a camera film junkie :P hope it helps!

so hungry to shoot film but not much opportunity within this impatient short span of like 2 days? haha so i dug up my old film photographs that well were never really published on the blog. why? i’m not sure i guess i thought since i already published the digital copies then what was the point of showing these again. i just love how they are just photographs, not digitally enhanced or altered pictures. i suppose this is even more me in a way - natural and organic.

cute wedding details from ashley & clark’s snack bar! clark actually made the macaroons himself and his talented “brothers” put it together and came up with the creative tag lines.

detoured from the office that day to nestle down in drips cafe to do some planning. i was sick that day though, forcing myself to be well haha i’m glad those days are over. i had raspberry tart and a latte.

now, i bring about this huge bottle of water (the 1.5L kind i think) and yesterday i stopped having sugar in my coffee or drinks (well…except today…but it truly wasn’t my fault haha). slowly reverting to a healthier simpler way of eating. i think i began buying into the idea of spoiling myself (and keeping myself energized) because i worked so hard but i realized that it’s not really helping my body much.

so more water, less sugar.
at least for now it’s something easy to remember ;)

the boys were away, so we scheduled a shoot! this is part one of a series of shoots that wendy will be doing with me all the way till the little one arrives :D at this moment, when we were snapping away, we didn’t yet know if the little “lemon” (says the doctor) was a boy or a girl but we were all extremely excited anyway. truly, every child is a miracle!

i suggested to wendy to write a love letter to her baby before she found out the next day whether the little one was a boy or a girl and what were her wishes and words of love for him/her. i read about this idea on the internet and i feel like it’s something so special.

it seems so long to hold a life in one’s womb for 9 months or so and dealing with so much discomfort and what nots that this precious moments of photographing each phase and writing a letter would remind us of the incredibleness of it all and when this phase is over, you’d have all these photos and words to bring you back to that moment.

oh and when wendy, all excited, showed her hubby the photographs - marcus clapped. haha now i know he’s one who has really high photography standards and i’m not trying to downplay my photography but i believe that the portraits of wendy and his little one encompassed all their hopes, faith, joy, love, struggles and bond as a couple and these are the photographs that have the most meaning and emotion and i aim to beautifully capture their journey…
